So as far as I know, BeamNG is a part 2 of RoR that's hugely popular game. BeamNG proved that amazing graphics, with even more amazing physics can be done... and man it's done properly.
Let's talk about this game a bit.
BeamNG.drive is a, well sort of, sequel to the famous Rigs of Rods. Developers decided to take a sharp turn and create even better game than the previous one, even though it seemed impossible few months back.
Game focuses on physics mainly, this means you'll see one of the best gaming physics ever. We all remember the famous RoR where you could drive anything and do basically anything you want, well get ready because BeamNG.drive offers all that and much more. This time all the features that were famous in RoR are implemented in the game, what this means is you'll be able to drive boats, cars, trucks, planes, heavy machinery...anything literally.
The game is in Alpha stage now and doesn't offer too much, but it's enough to see where this project is going. For a start you can destroy cars like never before thanks to amazing graphics achieved with new engine. Game looks great, physics are good and best of all it's not complicated for a beginner like RoR was. No, this time you have much better menu with less options that are not important for you, for example you have only options for Play, Options, Credits and Exit. This means that you don't have to worry about stuff you don't want to. After you start the game the menu remains the same, simple.
With simple menu you can quickly change the vehicle or any parts you want, yes parts. This time you can simply use drop down menu to change any parts on the car from tires, doors, mirrors to brakes.
The game is in alpha stages and it looks very promising already, we can expect one of the most awesome games in last few years.
If you want to crash stuff, enjoy nature while doing fancy fly-over in your plane, driving a boat into sunset or join a demolish derby it's all there. Also we can't forget that heavy machinery will be supported, this gives us much ideas on what could we build, dig or destroy here.
We'll do a full review soon, this is just a quick look at the Alpha version.
**We played the payed version of the game that includes more maps, cars etc. Options and content from the payed version are not included with the free demo**
Who we are
BeamNG is a young startup company developing a state of the art real time physics simulation engine. We are currently a team of two programmers and two artists that founded the company in 2011.
Our goals
Our main focus is on how things move rather than how things look on the screen. We aim to bring our expertise in real time soft-body physics and soft-body physics model design to the forefront of game physics simulation, making available the technology and know-how to as a wide an audience as possible. To achieve this, we are designing the engine and corresponding assets, so as to be independent of the underlying game engine and Operating System.
Right now the physics engine is running on a multicore CPU configuration, but we are also in the process of supporting GPUs via OpenCL.
Our mission
To have realistic, accurate, destructible and malleable physics everywhere. To make anything possible.
